Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church
We are a Christian Church, devoted to our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins, and who has also risen to eternal life and God's glory. We are committed to personal growth, through prayer, Bible study and fellowship with Jesus and with each other, united in Christ by the Holy Spirit of God.
We esteem The Holy Bible as the Word of God, which gives real, objective guidance and instruction concerning the shape and character of God's kingdom community.
We are committed to living in obedience to God's divine Law. But we also acknowledge each believer's freedom in Christ. Therefore, we are able to welcome people of diverse opinions regarding Christian conduct without imposing any particular rules and regulations beyond the universal commandment that we should love one another.
We are an Evangelical Covenant Church.
We are Evangelical in that we are committed to obeying Christ's Great Commission, as stated in Matthew mainly, to make disciples of all people, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We do this through the preaching ministry and through the personal outreach that our members practice as they have opportunity.
We are Covenant because that is a Biblical word meaning "agreement" or "promise." God has made a Covenant together with all his people to protect and preserve the community of God for His purposes on earth. It is his Covenant, established and maintained in and through Jesus Christ and his ministry of grace in our lives.
Historically, the Evangelical Covenant Church has its roots in the Swedish Lutheran church. Therefore, we are a Protestant, Reformation Church whose founders experienced revival and renewal. The emphasis is on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ through personal repentance of sin and appreciation of Christ's death on the cross, through which all who believe are forgiven of their sins.
Our mission statement:
We are a Bible based church, dependent upon the work of the Holy Spirit. Loving all people in his name, we serve the community through prayer, caring and encouragement, providing opportunities for individuals to grow closer to God and develop a personal relationship with his Son our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church is the first of the two churches established in our town. More than seventy years ago the residents of this town felt the need for a Sunday School program for their children. The first Sunday school classes met upstairs in the tallest portion of our building, which was originally the Glenburn town hall.
